Snowy River Shire has a rich and varied population base reflecting both its origins as a grazing community and its more recent history linked with the construction of the Snowy Mountains Scheme and the development of the ski industry. The area is considered a prime example of Australian multiculturalism, with the recent immigrant population well integrated with the pioneer families who have farmed cattle and sheep in the region for more than 150 years.
Today the Man from Snowy River tradition sits comfortably alongside the more cosmopolitan culture which is developing with the inflow of urban refugees finding their way to the Snowy Mountains to make a life here. For more information on the lifestyle changers click here
