Council Green Team

A newly established "Green Team" at Snowy River Shire Council is looking at ways Council and the community can reduce their environmental footprint by cutting electricity, fuel and water use and the volume of waste sent to landfill.

The Green Team is a working group of staff from across Council departments and a community representative who meet once a month to look at ways in which Council can provide leadership on issues of environment sustainability.

The working group has started by developing a policy framework for the Green Team and an action plan to prioritize the various initiatives. Examples of initiatives proposed are:

  • Audit and replacement of Council equipment and plant with more energy efficient models
  • Support for home builders to include energy efficient measures and alternative power use
  • Using savings generated by efficiency measures to implement other initiatives
  • Examining services and charges for waste collection and recycling to promote more recycling
