The area comprises the sub-alpine regions of Snowy River Shire and alpine areas of the Kosciuszko National Park. As the snow melts, trout fisherman come to fish the streams and lakes. Boating enthusiasts use the wide expanses of the man made lakes for sailing, waterskiing, paraflying, wind surfing and launch cruises. Many people are discovering the fresh air and beauty of the high country during the hot Australian summers.

Consequently Snowy River country is popular in summer as well as winter. Many enjoyable summer pursuits are available such as mountain biking, abseiling, bushwalking, canoeing, white water rafting and horseriding along bridal tracks in the fresh summer air, having a dip in the thermal pool or exploring the beautiful Yarrangobilly Caves.
